If the theme song to that show that raised us came up when you read this title, welcome aboard. How are your knees?! 😂
Welcome to the annual birthday blog. These reflections are conversations I have with who I’ve been, who I am and who I will be…
Dear me,
Homegirl, if i could go back in time I’m not sure what I’d do to you. At this moment I’m caught between slapping the ambition out of you or giving you a warm embrace. You didn’t know any better. Right? Or maybe you did but you were too stubborn to take another path. Girl…we here now. We are on the third floor of Shukushukuma Ad and Print.
This floor is messy. The elevator doesn’t always work so you have to take the stairs…a lot. The wheels on your bus are not going round and round. They are falling off. One after the other. Pothole here and another 300m down the road. Sometimes you have double punctures and you’re forced to stop. As you wait you sit uncomfortably with your decisions, miscalculations and wrong turns. Imposter syndrome has you by the edges of your dreadlocks. You’re still in pursuit of being just the right amount.
I’m tempted to say you’re tired of fighting but, we both know that would be a lie. You fight to be yourself at every turn. You still pray for those rooms where your name is mentioned in your absence. Hope is still your closest ally. I haven’t seen your smile in a while but, you’re still magic. You wish time was more kinder towards you…
Oh, and somebody please give The Rembrandts a Bells on my behalf. I sang along unknowingly but those lyrics mean a whole lot more now. Second gear issa lot!
To who I will be,
We will continue to do it anyway…
I hope you’ll be proud of us…
I hope you won’t hide our scars…
Happy birthday, Linda 🎈
